To align our existing business practices and processes with the guidelines by the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) governing the use, collection and disclosure of the NRIC and other national identification numbers, Smart Energy will be implementing the following necessary changes:
- With effect 1st September 2019, Smart Energy staff will strictly no longer be recording customer’s full NRIC/FIN number for the purposes of Member card registration, lost card or Card return/ refund.
- For NEW Smart Energy Card membership registrations, in order to register the new membership code we will collect the last 3 numerical digits and last letter of the NRIC number (e.g. “567A” from the full NRIC number of “S1234567A”), as well as your latest updated 8 digit mobile phone number. The combination of these data, in addition to your name stated on your NRIC, will also be used to verify our member’s identity in processing any requests relating to the card. For security and verification purposes, we strongly encourage all new customers signing up to provide us your latest 8 digit mobile number (exclude country code).
- For existing Smart Energy Cardmembers, we will remove your NRIC numbers from our databases from 1st September onwards and replace them in the new format - combination of your partial NRIC number and 8-digit mobile phone number (if any) given to us at the point of registration.
